In 64, the First Doctor, Ian Chesterton, Barbara Wright and Vicki Pallister took an extended holiday near Rome. Ian and Barbara were sold into slavery, while the Doctor and Vicki joined the court of Nero. Whilst in Rome in July, the Doctor inadvertently inspired Nero to set the Great Fire of Rome. (PROSE: Romans Cutaway, TV: The Romans) Around the same time, on a totally separate journey, the foursome visited Byzantium and got a personal view of the struggle between Rome and early Christendom.
