In 1461, to prepare for the invading armies of Sultan Mehmed II, (PROSE: The Book of the War) Vlad III marched 23,000 Turks three miles outside of Tirgoviste (AUDIO: Son of the Dragon) and had them impaled, creating the Forest of the Impaled.
