Yrcanos was a Warlord of Thordon and a Krontep warrior king. His self-declaimed titles included "King of the Krontep, Lord of the Vingten, Conqueror of the Tonkonp Empire". The Sixth Doctor met him on Thoros Beta in 2379. Yrcanos later fell in love with Peri Brown, (TV: Mindwarp) who in turn developed feelings of love for him and became his wife. (TV: The Ultimate Foe)
Biography[]
Battle on Thoros-Beta[]
In 2379, Yrcanos and his equerry Dorf were captured by the Mentors, who want to force the Krontep king into signing a business contract with them. Brought to Thoros-Beta, Yrcanos was then handed over to Crozier, to have his brain artificially pacified to force him to agree to the Mentors' terms. However, the mind-altering process on Yrcanos proved ineffective, due to his defiant struggles and savage nature. He was freed shortly afterwards by the Sixth Doctor, and became enamoured to Peri, who introduced herself to Yrcanos as "Perpugilliam of the Brown".
When the Doctor seemingly began to cooperate with the Mentors, Yrcanos was forced to abandon a planned attack on the Mentor's Induction Centre, whereupon he found and freed Dorf, who had been experimented upon by Crozier. They then liberated a captured Peri, and together they joined forces with the Alphan resistance to fight the Mentors. However, they were ambushed by Mentor guards and arrested.
Locked in a holding cell, Peri explained to Yrcanos about the concept of 'love', and Yrcanos in turn told Peri a bit about about his own world, such as how a noble death in battle leads to reincarnation in a nobler body, until a dead king rises to the halls of the gods to fight for eternity, a concept that amused Peri. In the process of talking, Yrcanos and Peri seemed to develop affectionate feelings for each other. When Peri was selected for medical examination by Crozier, she shared a final fond moment with Yrcanos, briefly holding his comforting hand before she was taken from the cell and escorted to the laboratory.
Shortly afterwards, the Doctor freed Yrcanos and Dorf from their cell. Although the Krontep king was initially suspicious, due to the Doctor's earlier apparent willingness to help the Mentors, he was convinced by the Doctor that they were on the same side. They then freed Tuza, the Alphan resistance leader, before setting off to liberate the slaves from the Mentor's mind control implants. Although the attack on the control centre was successful, with the Mentors' slaves freed from the control of the mind-control implants, Dorf was killed in the process, which saddened Yrcanos, though he acknowledged that falling in battle was a honourable way for his equerry to go. (TV: Mindwarp) Realising that he was in love with 'Perpugilliam of the Brown', (PROSE: Mindwarp) Yrcanos then rushed off to rescue her, declaring his intention to make her his bride. Along the way, he failed to realise that the Doctor had been snatched out of time by the Time Lords. (TV: Mindwarp)
Destiny with Peri[]
There are several different accounts of what happened afterwards to Yrcanos and Peri because competing factions of Time Lords chose different ways to rewrite Peri's life. According to a Time Lord who visited the Sixth Doctor and a version of Peri living in Los Angeles in 2009, no fewer than five versions of Peri ("at the last count") were removed from the timeline, which meant different fates for Yrcanos as well. (AUDIO: Peri and the Piscon Paradox)
The Matrix Account[]
From an account shown on the Matrix, it appeared that Yrcanos was held in a time-bubble, preventing him from stopping the surgical operation on Peri's brain that altered her entire mind into becoming a copy of Lord Kiv's. Upon being freed from the time-bubble, Yrcanos was devastated to find that he had arrived too late to save Peri. Enraged and heartbroken, he proceeded to seemingly kill everyone in the lab, including the Kiv-possessed Peri (TV: Mindwarp) and Crozier. (PROSE: Mindwarp) The Tremas Master later claimed that this account had been faked by the Valeyard, with the death of Peri having been an illusion in the Matrix meant to deceive the Doctor. (TV: The Ultimate Foe)
Marrying Peri[]
Another version of the events showed that Yrcanos was successful in saving Peri, and the two escaped from Thoros-Beta and eventually married (TV: The Ultimate Foe) in the Hall of Blood and Skulls on the Day of Six Deaths, (PROSE: The Dark Scrolls of the Valeyard) with Peri officially changing her surname to 'Yrcanos'. Since becoming Queen of Krontep, Peri trained herself to be a warrior like Yrcanos (AUDIO: The Trials of a Time Lord) and became regarded as being mightier than her husband, as together they brought peace and prosperity to Krontep, ruling with both steel and compassion. (WC: The Eternal Mystery)
Peri later became pregnant, and she and Yrcanos ultimately had three children: two sons and a daughter, just as Peri had always wanted. (AUDIO: Peri and the Piscon Paradox, The Trials of a Time Lord) One was named Yrcanthia, who ruled as a warrior queen with her parents and husband, Corynus. They had at least three grandchildren by them, including Actis and Euthys. The Doctor and Frobisher would regularly visit Peri and Yrcanos to see how they and their ever-expanding family were doing. (COMIC: The Age of Chaos)
After ruling alongside his wife for many years, Yrcanos eventually died through undisclosed circumstances, prompting Peri to leave Krontep, as she believed her subjects no longer need a figurehead to guide them. (WC: The Eternal Mystery)
Abandoned by Peri[]
According to another account, Peri was suffocated by the regimented life of a queen and her twenty-five unhappy years of marriage, and she ran away to the Palace of the First Queen of Kr'on Tep where she continued her research into Petruska. Although she promised Yrcanos that she would return when he came after her, she used Petruska's time tunnel, bringing her to London in 1958. (PROSE: Bad Therapy)
Settling on Earth[]
One account suggested that Peri and Yrcanos were lifted out of time by the Time Lords before the mind transfer operation, and were transported to the early part of the 1990s on Earth. Although Yrcanos found life in California perplexing, he coped well and was happy enough to be with Peri. He subsequently became a popular professional wrestler, with Peri as his valet. (PROSE: Mindwarp)
Assassinated[]
Yet another account stated that while Yrcanos married Peri, her mind was actually controlled by a mind parasite called Mandrake. Oblivious of the fact, Yrcanos died seven days after the wedding, having been poisoned by Mandrake. (AUDIO: The Widow's Assassin)
Legacy[]
Following Yrcanos' death, Peri visited his shrine once a year to pay fond tribute to her late husband, affectionately quoting his immortal battlecry of 'vroomnik'. (WC: The Eternal Mystery)
