Opening narration box
The Doctor and Martha aren’t far behind when a giant alien warrior rampages through a supermarket …
Summary
Stopping off to pick up some milk in a supermarket - the milkmaid at a 9th century French farm having boils on her hands - the Doctor and Martha encounter a giant, rampaging, viking-like warrior called Thaur. Thaur is one of three warrior kings separated, banished and exiled from their homeworld of Norsum by Angboda.
After knocking him out with his sonic screwdriver to loosen the store's security orb from the ceiling, the tables are turned as Thaur, whom the Doctor and Martha fight with a shopping trolley. Martha snatches Thaur’s crystal necklace, a crystal of seeing and his only link with his homeworld.
Looking into the crystal the Doctor sees a fleet of war-craft being built. Thaur says they will crush a hundred worlds. As the police and the riot squads arrive to pacify them with smoking bombs, the Doctor decides to take Thaur aboard the TARDIS. Before they leave, with Thaur determined to rescue his warrior brothers before attacking Norsum, the Doctor collects his milk, leaving the money in a little bag with a note of thanks with the police.

- The Battles in Time comic strip sought to reinforce the association of its Doctor with the one seen on screen with ‘props’ from the TV series: blue/brown suit, intelligent-looking glasses, sonic screwdriver and psychic paper.
Notes
- Supporting the series of collectible Doctor Who trading cards, the magazine carried a regular four page, individually titled comic strip of the Tenth Doctor’s adventures.
- The artwork and colours were bold and bright, reflecting the tone of the magazine and, as did Doctor Who Adventures, reflected the appeal to readers younger than those catered to by Doctor Who Magazine.
- The chunky chain with the crystal on it round Thaur's neck is clearly seen to break when Martha snatches it from his neck. Maybe the Doctor used his sonic screwdriver to weld it back together, ready to wear in the next but one frame!
