William Simons (17 November 1940-21 June 2019[1]) played Mandrel in the Doctor Who television story The Sun Makers.

Outside of Doctor Who, he is best known for playing encyclopaedic PC Alf Ventress in all eighteen series of the 1960s-set police drama series Heartbeat.
