The Wicked Witch of the West was, by some accounts, a fictional character from The Wizard of Oz, (PROSE: Out of the Box, etc.) although an alternative account claimed her to be a real individual who once visited the Land of Ooo. (WC: New Adventures Await!)
Biography[]
The Wicked Witch of the West was flying through the Land of Ooo on her broom with Gizmo when B.A. Baracus drove past in his van, splashing the two with water from a puddle, something neither of them liked.
Along with several other individuals, she later ran into battle in the Land of Ooo, and wound up in a mosh pit with the rest of the battle's participants, including the Twelfth Doctor. (WC: New Adventures Await!)
Other references[]
Tamsin Drew once referred to Morella Wendigo as the Wicked Witch of the West. (AUDIO: Nevermore)
The Spy Master once said to the Thirteenth Doctor that his house's flying in the air was "very Wicked Witch of the West". (TV: Spyfall)
Giles had Maxie Masters watch a film titled The Wizard of Oz, at the end of which the Wicked Witch of the West was defeated by melting. (PROSE: Out of the Box)
Behind the scenes[]
- The Wicked Witch of the West is a character from L. Frank Baum's Oz franchise, being the main antagonist of the first book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and its seminal 1939 film adaptation The Wizard of Oz. Both versions of this story open with protagonist Dorothy Gale's house being carried into the air, whole and intact, by a tornado, which is the incident implicitly referred to in Spyfall; it is specifically in the aforementioned 1939 film that during the flying house scene, Dorothy catches a glimpse of a familiar character from her everyday life, Mrs Gulch, transforming into the villainous Wicked Witch, furthering the parallels between the movie scene and the scene of the reveal of O's true identity in Spyfall.
- The crossover video game LEGO Dimensions, which is not considered a valid source on this wiki, sees the main characters travel both to a world based on the 1939 film adaptation of The Wizard of Oz, and to the Doctor Who Universe. The Wizard of Oz antagonist, the Wicked Witch of the West, is recruited by the game's main antagonist and makes a few other minor appearances later in the game. In another instalment of the LEGO franchise, The Lego Batman Movie, versions of both the Wicked Witch and the Daleks were among the interdimensional villains recruited by the Joker to wreak havoc on Gotham City.
