In the 13th century, (TV: The Sontaran Experiment) the castle was ruled by Edward of Wessex. During this time, an attempted raid by Irongron and Linx was deterred by the Doctor with the use of homemade stink bombs and dummy soldiers. (TV: The Time Warrior)
