Dr Warren Martyn was an archaeologist, an explorer and a friend of Lavinia Smith. In 1983, he and his assistant Dexter Townsend led an Egyptian dig following new satellite photography of the deserts. The dig was cursed by funding difficulties, on-site deaths and the theft of items. This led to most of his financial backers withdrawing funding.
