The Warp Core was a superweapon created by the inhabitants of Duchamp 331 to protect their planet from the Krill. After destroying its own creators, it fled through time into the mind of Edvard Munch, who would end up painting the Scream, which contained the Warp Core. At one point in time, the Tremas Master attempted to steal it, but its power destroyed his old body, reducing him to his previous decayed form. (AUDIO: Dust Breeding)
