A war veteran sought asylum in the Eleven-Day Empire, where he was given a flat in Camden Town. His history was too "buggered-up" for even Faction Paradox to untangle. However, after he outstayed his welcome and began sub-letting the flat, Godfather Starch sent Little Sister Ceol and Little Brother Dominic to evict them.
When Dominic entered the front door of the flat, he saw the veteran sitting silently while a drunk man wove around the room babbling. Dominic later noted to Starch that neither of the men possessed much "in the way of corporeal structure". Upstairs, Ceol found a singing man bathing in the bathtub. (PROSE: Now or Thereabouts)
Behind the scenes[]
The characters in the flat first appeared in author Blair Bidmead's short story With All Awry.
- In that story, the veteran was the amnesiac Eighth Doctor, who the Faction took in after his destruction of Romana III's Gallifrey left him with biodata that was highly toxic to history. They tried to decontaminate him with a modified remembrance tank, but nothing worked.
- Living with the Doctor in the Camden flat was Reg, and they unsuccessfully tried to escape several times until, during one of their attempts to the countryside, Fitz sent the Doctor his leather jacket, a TARDIS key, and a telegram saying that the TARDIS was in Earl's Court.
- However, upon arriving home the Doctor and Reg found a singing man in their bathtub. Shortly afterwards, Faction Paradox agents notified them that they were being evicted, and the singing man disappeared, stealing Fitz's leather jacket and the TARDIS key in its pocket. Reg went with the Doctor to the tube station, but the Doctor arrived at Earl's Court just as the TARDIS dematerialised.
