Vella was a Silurian and member of the Bloomsbury Bunch.
Biography[]
Hibernation[]
Vella was a warrior of the Northern Clans. (AUDIO: Rulers of Earth)
When the time came to enter hibernation to avoid the threat of the approaching moon, (TV: Doctor Who and the Silurians, etc.) Vella was late to the hibernation units and thus entered one which was disconnected from the others. (AUDIO: A Photograph to Remember)
The Bloomsbury Bunch[]
Vella awoke in the 19th century when Queen Victoria disrupted a power line with a trowel whilst building the Albert Memorial and was full of "vengeance and fury", finding that the passage to the chamber containing the other Silurians had gone due to the movements of the Earth. She met Stonn, the Bloomsbury Bunch later being completed when they met Tom Foster.
Vella learnt of the Paternoster Gang, believing Vastra to be deceptive and pretentious, Strax to be stupid and all three of them to be untrustworthy.
Vella caught Jenny Flint snooping around Foster & Stonn and defeated her in a fight, later being held at knifepoint by Vastra until she agreed to a temporary truce, although she refused to trust her and did not believe in the revenants until they arrived at the shop. Vella fought them alongside Strax and, later, Jenny before the lens was destroyed. She then used a teleport to get herself, Stonn and Tom away from the Paternosters. (AUDIO: A Photograph to Remember)
Against a goddess[]
Please help by adding some more information.
Some time after escaping from the Paternosters, Vella left Tom and Stonn (AUDIO: Truth and Bone) to scour the world for Silurian nests.
After Vastra became possessed by Anura, Vella imprisoned Jenny and Strax for their protection. She tricked Franz Albrecht Stuart into helping her and was able to take the power of Anura, but Strax stunned her to bring her back to her senses. She was reunited with Tom and Stonn and planned to drop the Tebenbracht into the deepest point of the ocean to stop it being used again. (AUDIO: Rulers of Earth)
Personality[]
Vella believed herself to be completely unlike Vastra, describing her as full of "artifice and affectation" and saying that she would never kiss a human, whom she called apes. She was offended by Jenny's idea that the Silurians were like Sleeping Beauty.
Jenny told Vastra that Vella was "a bit pushy". (AUDIO: A Photograph to Remember)
Appearance[]
Vella wore a veil to conceal her green and scaly face. (AUDIO: Rulers of Earth)
Behind the scenes[]
Beth Goddard initially planned to play Vella with a "cool reptilian approach" before deciding that it would prove restrictive. She instead chose to play her as a woman in a position threatened by Vastra, wanting to be a queen bee rather than a worker. (BFX: Heritage 1)
