An untitled Cosmic Capers story printed in TV Century 21 as part of its 1965 Summer Extra contained elements from the Doctor Who universe. It was one of the first depictions of the 2060s Dalek invasion of Earth and actually showed the extermination of humans on the ground, something not explicitly seen again until Return of the Elders.

Summary[]

A man reading TV 21 talks to his friend, who is reading the newspaper The Times. As the man peruses headlines detailing the destruction wrought by the Daleks, he comments that they are "jolly good fun" but voices his belief that "of course, it could never happen". Meanwhile, as the two gentleman continue to be engrossed by their respective publications, they are oblivious to a squad of Daleks which is annihilating the landscape behind them. Nearby buildings fall as they spread out and mercilessly exterminate the fleeing public on the streets around them.

Story notes[]

  • This story holds the distinction of being the first DWU-related content from TV Century 21 to be reprinted, occurring when several Cosmic Capers from Summer Extra 1965 were reused for TV21 Annual 1970 as T.V. Twenty-Fun. Although other pieces were relatively standalone, this one would not have made much sense in-universe as, by 1969, The Daleks had not featured in the magazine for over two years so they would not have been front page news.
