Tyre

Tyre was a city on Earth, at one time part of Phoenicia, (AUDIO: The Phoenicians) located on the Mediterranean shore. (AUDIO: The Green Man)

History[]

The First Doctor, Barbara Wright, Ian Chesterton and Susan visited Tyre in 814 BC, where they met Elissa of Tyre (later known as Dido) and her brother King Pygmalion. They soon left for Kition with Elissa, and eventually Tunisia, where Elissa would soon found Carthage. (AUDIO: The Phoenicians)

Roxane was in Tyre when Alexander the Great sent her a message summon her to meet Susan Foreman and Barbara Wright. She eventually arrived in Babylon in the last moments of Alexander's life. (AUDIO: Farewell, Great Macedon)

Tyre was involved in the Crusades. Moses of Tyre's wife was killed during the Crusades; (AUDIO: The Green Man) in the 1190s, Luigi Ferrigo claimed that Conrad of Tyre sent an emissary to make peace with Saladin. He claimed to have come "on his heels". (TV: The Crusade) Moses of Tyre was a native of Tyre who, although of Jewish origins, joined the Knights Templar. After travelling to England with Henri d'Arrée, Moses half-accidentally invented gunpowder while fighting a Krynoid. (AUDIO: The Green Man)
