During the War in Heaven, Type 89 or 89-form was the classification used for the many types of Homeworld timeships that became popular between the Type 88 and Type 90 generations. (PROSE: Crimes Against History)

Proliferation[]

150 years before the War in Heaven, (PROSE: Crimes Against History) around the same time as Romana III's narrow election to the Presidency, (PROSE: Happy Endings, Crimes Against History) influence on the Homeworld from the rest of the universe led to the popularity of robots, and many members of the Great Houses experimented with grafting new systems onto the internal architectures of their timeships. This led to a proliferation of Type names. (PROSE: Crimes Against History)

Examples[]

Timeship types from this period included Type 104, Type 128b, Type 161.55, Type n+x, and Type pi-R-760. (PROSE: Crimes Against History)

Epsilon Delta stole a "Type 102" TARDIS that featured a voice-activated lock, a chameleon circuit which he found highly reliable, and a number of spare dimensions for housing prisoners. Using this TARDIS, he fled Gallifrey and travelled to other worlds including Argolis and Earth. (PROSE: The Dimension Riders) Later, Type 102 designated Compassion, the mother of all humanoid TARDISes. (PROSE: The Shadows of Avalon)

Narvin regarded his TARDIS, a Type 400, as "top of the range". (AUDIO: The Quantum Possibility Engine)

Lady President Romana III used a Type 160, which she regarded as old and outdated, to rescue Narvin and Ace from a black hole. (AUDIO: Intervention Earth)

The Type 1056771z was the highest Type number reached before standardisation. (PROSE: Crimes Against History)

Standardisation[]

To resolve the unorganised expansion of type classifications, the High Council stepped in and reclassified all timeships from this period as 89-forms, regardless of their cross-bred elements. (PROSE: Crimes Against History) This cleared the way for Type 90 (PROSE: The Brakespeare Voyage, et al.) and its successors, which were the first generations bred specifically for war, (PROSE: The Book of the War) as well as the humanoid Type 103. (PROSE: Alien Bodies, et al.)
