Tybalt

Tybalt was a character in William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet.

He was the cousin of Juliet Capulet. At some point, Tybalt was slain by Romeo Montague. In Act IV Scene III, just before taking her sleeping draught, Juliet believed she saw Tybalt's ghost "seeking out Romeo that did spit his body upon a rapier's point". She told him to stay and then drunk the draught, falling unconscious on her bed.

In an alternative version of the play conceived by Shakespeare to "make dark tragedie light", Tybalt was revealed by the Doctor to be alive at the play's conclusion in Act V Scene III, following Romeo's request to be banished for Verona for his part in Tybalt's demise. However, as the Doctor quietly stated to his friends Amy and Rory, this Tybalt was not the human original, who did die by Romeo's hand, but a Zygon who the Doctor had previously saved from burning as a witch, now returning the favour owed.
