True Origins was an anthology published by Arcbeatle Press, the last produced in a publishing partnership with BBV Productions. It was a follow-up to Arcbeatle's previous P.R.O.B.E. anthology Out of the Shadows, collecting P.R.O.B.E. stories which had previously been available only as online extras or in other anthologies. This included stories previously only available as BBV Productions audiobooks as well as Cyberon crossovers which, although featuring P.R.O.B.E. itself, had not previously been released under the P.R.O.B.E. brand name.
In addition to Arcbeatle- and BBV-owned elements, the anthology also featured licensed characters and concepts from the Virgin New Adventures and Faction Paradox series, most prominently the Vault and the Yssgaroth.

- The book was dedicated "To every reader who has loved these characters" and also included "Special thanks" to Dillon O'Hara and Deanne Rupert.
- Despite the prior announcement of a different, further P.R.O.B.E. anthology at the end of Out of the Shadows, True Origins's afterword explicitly highlighted that True Origins would be the final Arcbeatle Press release using the Preternatural Research Bureau or the Cyberons.
