A tramp was a companion of the Seventh Doctor. He had been homeless for over two years before the Doctor stopped him from committing suicide and befriended him.

Biography

One Christmas, the tramp saved up enough money to buy himself a bottle of champagne. It was knocked out of his hand by a passerby before the tramp could drink it. The tramp wished to end his life and stood in the middle of the road to be hit by a bus driven by a woman called Rita. He was saved by the Seventh Doctor. The Doctor claimed to be trying to get one over on his enemy, Death.

The tramp joined the Doctor in several adventures. During one, he helped the Doctor and Hanse overthrow the Emperor of a planet and in another they stopped Mortimus from taking Antonio Salieri back in time to kill the infant Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

During another adventure the tramp encountered the Auctor, who told him if the bus had hit the tramp, then Rita would have blamed herself for his death and committed suicide. The Auctor informed the tramp that his life being saved distrupted the Web of Time. The tramp accused the Doctor of only acting save Rita's life and not caring about his. The tramp lost faith in the Doctor and wanted to return to where he was taken from, feeling as though his life was worth nothing. He never told the Doctor his name, but the Doctor always knew it and was waiting for him to reclaim it. (PROSE: The Tramp's Story)

The tramp was later removed from history by the Doctor to protect the Web of Time and was placed in a zeppelin that was endlessly looping through the heart of the Time Vortex. There he recounted the story of his time with the Doctor to Charley Pollard. He wanted to tell Charley his name. (PROSE: Repercussions...)
