Publisher's summary[]
Following the threads of a conspiracy twisting throughout all of time and space, the Doctor and his companions head to the Vanishing Point - a mythical place, said to exist somewhere between science and magic. But it is a journey from which they may never return.
Plot[]
After refusing to carry out another of Raven’s cryptic missions, the Doctor attempts to pilot the powerless TARDIS clear of a nexus where the local flow of time has frozen solid. Using Raven’s stolen Time Ring to jump‑start the engines, Zoe rifles through a forbidden Gallifreyan chronicle that speaks of a legendary ‘Vanishing Point’. The book lashes out with blinding tendrils of energy and, before the travellers can react, a timescoop snatches the TARDIS from the vortex.
The scoop deposits the Doctor, Jamie, Zoe and Raven inside the Vanishing Point itself: an impossibly vast archive suspended outside causality and overseen by the austere Overseer Ananke and the curious scholar Aither. The librarians exist to witness every moment of the universe, but something is corrupting their records. Ananke reveals that an ancient weapon‑intelligence called Celestine was imprisoned in the archive long ago. Raven’s missions — covert journeys she sent the TARDIS on across Season 5 — were in fact seeding temporal anchors that now allow Celestine to tap the Vanishing Point’s power and rewrite history so only one, ‘perfect’ timeline survives.
Celestine manifests, gridlocking the multiverse and unleashing predatory chronovores that devour stray possibilities. Jamie and Zoe sabotage the anchors while the Doctor confronts Celestine in the Hall of Unwritten Stories, baiting it into overextending itself. With Aither’s help, the Doctor destabilises the core chronon lattice; the feedback will destroy the archive unless the siphon is cut. Realising the catastrophe she has helped engineer, Raven sacrifices her Time Ring to shatter Celestine’s link and seals the entity back into legend.
As the Vanishing Point stabilises, time begins to flow once more across the cosmos. Ananke vows to guard the archive, and Aither guides the travellers back to the TARDIS. Raven departs alone to atone for her actions, while the Doctor, Jamie and Zoe resume their travels — wary that the ripples of Celestine’s near‑victory may yet be felt.
