The Unwilling Traveller was a story original to The Dalek Outer Space Book, a Dalek annual of the 1960s. Unusually, it alternated between full pages of comic panels and pages of prose.
As with The Sea Monsters and Chris Welkin Planeteer, it had nothing directly to do with the Daleks, or any other apparent connection to the Doctor Who universe outside of the existence of time travel, but was placed within it by authorial intent, with the intent being that these stories represented elements of the future Earth setting, of interest to the Space Security Service.
Summary[]
Burglar Johnny Philpot steals a top-secret time machine from a scientific research centre. He accidentally transports himself to the future where the curious Automatons capture him. Soon the effects of the time machine wear off after twenty-four hours and Johnny is transported back to the research centre, but accidentally activates the time machine again when the nightwatchman confronts him. He arrives in the Stone Age where the savage native cavemen and dinosaurs attack him. After another unpleasant twenty-four hours, Johnny is transported back to the research centre and the nightwatchman arrests him. While serving time in prison, Johnny vows to give up his life of crime.
