The Third Doctor's Guide to Pluotivan Karate was a one-page parodical comic story in Tim Quinn and Dicky Howett's The Doctor Who Fun Book. In a play on the Third Doctor's iconic Venusian aikido, this Doctor Who?-esque strip saw the Doctor attempting to explain Plutovian karate to the reader (breaking the fourth wall).

Summary[]

The Third Doctor's exhausting demonstration of Plutovian karate turns out to be a misapplication of the Plutovians' real talent — dancing!

Notes[]

  • Although the replacement of aikido with karate in the name of the discipline was likely intended as part of the spoof, some valid sources do give "Venusian karate" as an alternative name for Venusian aikido, such as the audio story Last of the Cybermen.
  • Similarly, the name of Plutovian karate seems to be intended to replace the planet Venus with the (dwarf) planet Pluto, another celestial body from the solar system. This is not, however, confirmed in-story, with the origins of the three-eyed Plutovians remaining ambiguous. According to the valid novel GodEngine, on the other hand, the native sentient lifeforms of Pluto in the Doctor Who universe were called Plutonians.
