The Thing (film)
You may wish to consult Thing (disambiguation) for other, similarly-named pages.

The Thing was a 1982 science fiction film directed by John Carpenter and starring Kurt Russell. (PROSE: Doctor Who: The Encyclopedia [+]Gary Russell, BBC Books (2007). Page 350; Edition: 2011 reprint., GAME: Blood of the Cybermen [+]Phil Ford, The Adventure Games (BBC Wales Interactive, 2010).) The film involved underground tunnels, and, according to Bill Potts, "everybody dies". (TV: Empress of Mars [+]Mark Gatiss, Doctor Who series 10 (BBC One, 2017).)

Bill thought the Twelfth Doctor would enjoy this film, and it came to mind when they explored underground tunnels on Mars. The Doctor seemed to have never heard of The Thing, (TV: Empress of Mars) though the Eleventh Doctor referred to the film when Amy Pond asked him if he had seen The Thing, though he also wondered if she meant the "Howard Hawks Thing-y with the walking carrot". (GAME: Blood of the Cybermen)

Behind the scenes[]

The blood organisms in the audio story The Labyrinth of Buda Castle were inspired by this film.
