The Pickwick Papers was a book written by Charles Dickens some time before 1845. It was about a fat rogue called Mr Pickwick. Most people in Dickens' time had heard the accusation that he had stolen the character from his illustrator, Seymour, an accusation which Dickens considered slander. (PROSE: The Death of Art)
