In 2008, the Tenth Doctor lit a funeral pyre for the Saxon Master after he had died from a gunshot wound inflicted on him by Lucy Saxon, and had refused to regenerate. (TV: Last of the Time Lords [+]Russell T Davies, Doctor Who series 3 (BBC One, 2007).) The Master's body was cremated, but part of him survived through his signet ring. Miss Trefusis, one of the Disciples of Saxon, retrieved the ring as part of a contingency plan to resurrect him.
