The Gallifreyan Candidate was a BBC documentary which looked at Richard Condon's novel The Manchurian Candidate. It was included on the DVD of The Deadly Assassin and examined the novel's influences on the serial, including the political paranoia of the Cold War and fears of brainwashing.
Some notable influences of the novel concerned more American elements in the serial, in particular the inclusion of a "C.I.A." and Gallifrey being governed by a President rather than a Prime Minister.
