The Defence Drones was a short webcast prequel to TV: Revolution of the Daleks. It was formatted as an in-universe advertisement for Jack Robertson's Defence Drones. It thus served as this new Dalek variant's official debut, although it was also glimpsed in the visual accompaniment of the audio story AUDIO: Incoming Transmission, released online the same day by the BBC.
