Publisher's summary[]
"Tell me another story, Leela. Not the one about the walking doll or the creepy mechanical men. A new one. I want to hear a new one..."
Leela is dead but her soul lives on. She has been reborn as a young girl, Emily, whose "imaginary friend" tells her amazing tales about a great Wizard and the warrior who accompanies him on his adventures through time and space.
Emily prepares to tell her parents the story of a cold, grey world whose people are ruled over by a Glass Angel. The Wizard is her prisoner and only the warrior girl and her three peculiar friends can save him...

Worldbuilding[]
- The Map of Life is the largest work of art in the universe, conceived by Ricardo Stempus. It spans an entire continent on it's planet.
- The Sevateem had no art but war music, with shouting and drums. They believe in a place between one life and the next where the dead walk lost without purpose.
- Leela is assisted in reaching the castle by an old woman who rubs her neck and says "good grief"; a black raven with blue eyes in a scruffy jacket, baggy trousers, and tall hat who says "oh my giddy aunt"; and a wise creature with a mane of white hair and a stick.
- The snow on the world is actually tiny fragments of glass.
- For days the Doctor is trapped by the glass woman performing calculations.
