The Box Under the Tree was a short story published in Doctor Who Storybook 2008. It was written by Robert Shearman.

Summary[]

Harry's cover teacher is acting weird. On Christmas day there is a present for him from the Doctor. Harry goes to town and meets a man who gives him the key to his present. Harry also meets a women named Martha, who gives him a bottle of Aroma, a mixture that can stop the aliens. Harry sprays Aroma on an alien. He unlocks the TARDIS and sees an alien battle. Harry, Martha and the Doctor have to defeat Harry's cover teacher, who is really an alien with a cow's head and snakes coming out where her eyes are supposed to be.

Characters[]

Worldbuilding[]

  • The Doctor notes that he had previously stopped believing in the existence of Santa Claus; he then went onto admit that he'd been mistaken in this non-belief.

Notes[]

  • Because Harry had no blue crayonto draw the TARDIS with, he resorted to colouring it orange; this results in the TARDIS changing colour accordingly. The Doctor is shocked by the change, but concedes he could get used to it. Harry non-committally promises to fix the colour later, and the Doctor provides him with a blue crayola.
  • The story seems to imply that the Doctor and Martha were brought into existence from Harry Ware's imagination, as was the case for the Xarantharax and Iska'lanz'rm.
