Terry Nation's Dalek Annual 1979 was published in September 1978. It was the fourth and final Dalek annual released during the 1970s. It retailed for £1.50.

Notes[]

Narratively, this volume continued the story of the Anti-Dalek Force – and regular characters Joel Shaw, Mark Seven and Reb Shavron – as originally established in Terry Nation’s Dalek Annual 1976.

Several of the internal illustrations were provided by then-fan artist Paul Tams, with those of the main character in the short story Blockade looking remarkably like William Hartnell. As an additional in-joke, one of Tams’ illustrations for this story featured a spaceship including abstracted letters which spelled out “DWAS”—Tams had been a member of this fan group for several years, including a brief time as editor of its fanzine, Tardis.

Otherwise, this annual included no direct references to the Doctor, the TARDIS, or any other non-Dalek elements from Doctor Who. That said, the final short story The Planet that cried “Wolf!” did feature a penal planet similar to “Desperus”, as featured in The Daleks’ Master Plan while a feature article on various examples of alien technology mentioned a “Time-Space Visualiser” (The Chase).

Unlike the previous two Dalek annuals, this edition featured two new comic strips rather than edited reprints from TV Century 21.
