The Tenjin Festival was an annual festival which took place in Osaka. As a child, it was Toshiko Sato's favourite time of year. Her father never missed it.
The festival included fireworks over the River Dojima, while a procession of boats floated along the river to the point where the Dojima met the Okawa. Each boat carried dozens of people, all dressed in brightly coloured costumes.
Toshiko Sato attended with her parents, and her father bought her a bag of wagashi sweets on the way home. (PROSE: Trace Memory)
