By 1979, Doctor Who comics no longer appeared in the publication. This was noticed by Marvel UK editor Dez Skinn, realising the license was now "up for grabs" for other publishers, leading to the debut of Doctor Who Weekly, under Skinn's guidance. (COMIC: The Origin of Doctor Who Magazine)
