Tarot was a type of fortune-telling performed with a special deck of cards, each card holding a meaning. According to Donna Noble, the meaning of a fortune depicted by a card was changed depending on whether the card was presented to a viewer facing forwards or backwards. (PROSE: Legends of Camelot)

Cards in a Tarot deck included

The four suits were Cups, Swords, Pentacles, and Wands, (PROSE: Invasion of the Cat-People) although instead of Pentacles, some decks used Coins (PROSE: Invasion of the Cat-People) or Disks. (AUDIO: Sabbath Dei)

When Jack Harkness searched for the second resurrection gauntlet, a little girl who was reading tarot cards told him where to find it, later revealing the grim reaper/death card just as Jack was leaving. (TV: Dead Man Walking)

While in the Seventh Doctor's mind, Ace found a pack of tarot cards with images from the Doctor's life on them. (PROSE: Timewyrm: Revelation)
