Lists of appearances should be formatted as sortable tables. Use sentence case when titling a list of appearances page. When making a link to that page in an infobox, pipe trick to the emboldened and italicised phrase, see list.

Lists of appearances are subpages associated with our in-universe page on an element (such as a character, location, or group, to name a few). These pages list media covered by the Wiki which feature that element. Such subpages should only be created if listing at least four appearances in total; otherwise, it suffices to list these appearances in the |appearances= field of the main page's infobox.

Only actual appearances, however minor, should be included: mere mentions do not suffice. It must be noted, however, that in prose, a single "mention" by the narrator of a story might suffice to count as an on-page "appearance", depending on circumstances.

As decided in a Forum thread, invalid, but covered sources ought to be included in lists of appearances without distinction. On the other hand, non-covered sources, even partially-licensed ones eligible to citation on a /Non-covered_sources, should not be listed. Unproduced or unreleased works should get their own table below the mainline one, as seen for example at Sabbath Dei/Appearances.

Our general house style of using sentence case to title pages and section heads does indeed apply to the various pages in category:lists of appearances. Consequently, the format for naming such pages will be:

Topic/Appearances

When linked in an infobox as the value of the variable {appearances}, it is pipe tricked thus, using the appears template:

see list

Lists of appearances should be formatted as sortable tables, with the default sorting being by medium, like this:

class="unsortable" | Title
Medium
Series
Author
data-sort-type="iso-date" | Release date
Example Novel One
rowspan=2|Novel
The Example Series Adventures
John
1 January 1963
Example Novel Two
The New Example Series Chronicles
John
1 February 1964
Example Audio Play
Audio story
Example Audio Series
John
4 March 1963
Example Comic Story
Example Publication Magazine backup comic stories
Comic story
John
2 January 2023

Which produces this result:

Title Medium Series Author Release date
Example Novel One Novel The Example Series Adventures John Smith 1 January 1963
Example Novel Two The New Example Series Chronicles John Doe 1 February 1964
Example Audio Play Audio story Example Audio Series John Smith 4 March 1963
Example Comic Story Comic story Example Publication Magazine backup comic stories John Doe 2 January 2023
