Tanya Lernov was an astrogator aboard the Wheel.
Biography[]
Tanya had a Russian accent, suggesting her country of origin. (TV: The Wheel in Space) By 2000, (TV: The Mind Robber; AUDIO: Prison in Space) 2079 (AUDIO: The Dying Light) or later, (PROSE: The Indestructible Man) she was working as an astrogator, second class (TV: The Wheel in Space) or astrologer, second class (PROSE: The Wheel in Space) and was in a flirtatious relationship with Leo Ryan.
Like Gemma Corwyn, Tanya was concerned about Jarvis Bennett's order to destroy Silver Carrier and was the one to determine that the interference coming from it was deliberate, leading them to find Jamie McCrimmon and the Second Doctor aboard. She took over some of Ryan's duties whilst he repaired the laser and, following its reparation, tried to make Ryan stop firing at the approaching meteorites so as to avoid harming Jamie and Zoe Heriot. With Ryan and the Doctor, she witnessed Dr Corwyn's murder at the hands of a Cyberman over a screen.
Once the situation was resolved, Tanya held Ryan's hand and told him that Zoe had gone to see off the Doctor and Jamie. (TV: The Wheel in Space)
When Tanya caught up with Zoe, she was unaware that Zoe had spent two years travelling in the TARDIS during the short time they were apart; Zoe had just been returned by the Time Lords to the exact moment she left — therefore erasing her memory of all but her first adventure with the Doctor. Tanya told Zoe that they had to get to work restoring the Wheel to normal. Before they went off together, Zoe mentioned to Tanya she had a vague feeling of having forgotten something important, but dismissed this as nothing. (TV: The War Games)
