Taking a stab at merchandising[]
I have listened to Jubilee several times (listening to it again in order to fill in some redlinks) and the premise of the episode strikes me as Shearman taking a few stabs at how the Daleks have been merchandised by the BBC since their first appearence. It seems to be an intentional parody. I would mention this in the Notes section, but at the moment, it is merely speculation and I am unsure of this particular wiki's stance on that. Continuity and Canon[]
I and another user recently removed this statement from the article "The fact this story was adapted for Series 1 in 2005 does not disqualify it from being considered part of continuity, given that the two stories have many substantive differences in characters and plot.".
To clarify, it was removed because it is already stated in the notes section this audio was adapted. It doesn't need to be stated in continuity. Continuity is the tie-in and interconnectedness of stories and the links that are present in this story to other stories.
I believe the statement is getting canon and continuity confused. Just because this story was adapted into a TV story doesn't invalidate the audio story, the same way Human Nature (novel) isn't invalidated by the adaption of it into Human Nature (TV story) both are equally valid. The same goes for The Lodger (comic story) and The Lodger (TV story), and also What I Did on My Christmas Holidays by Sally Sparrow and Blink. All these stories are valid even though they've been adapted into TV stories.
In fact in when you look at the stories Jubilee is the least problematic of all the above examples in terms of sharing only basic plot and thematic ideas. It doesn't need to be stated in the continuity section because it's not an issue and it's not continuity, it's already stated in the notes section that it's been adapted, an adaption does not invalidate the original story. --Tangerineduel 16:39, August 12, 2010 (UTC)
