New image
It's been somewhat agreed by recent edits that the current infobox image for this page isn't very acceptable. I've come to agree that the close-up shot, while certainly looking very alien, doesn't represent this species very well.
  +
  +
I figured it might be a worthy discussion now to talk about the potential of hunting for a new image to represent the species. In the past I've been fond of the idea of striving to use Classic Series images for predominately classic series monsters. However, since then the 'clip' variable has meant that there are already assured to be two images (via thumbnails) of Classic Series Ice Warriors in the infobox. Thus I think an image from TV: Empress of Mars would be acceptable.
  +
  +
Keep in mind, as is the case with the Daleks and Cybermen, it would also be acceptable to choose an image from a comic as a compromise between the new and old versions of the show.
  +
  +
As a start to the discussion, I will be posting several images already on the site as potential pics for the infobox. OS25 (Talk) 17:15, June 13, 2017 (UTC)

:: Actually, I've done some thinking, and #5 is right out. It shows an Ice Warrior design that's frankly gone out-of-fashion (of the leader, with the very specific helmet). There is no need to represent a version of the Ice Warriors that is a) unlikely to be used in future stories and is b) already represented in the infobox via the 'clip2' variable. We need to go for images that capture the Ice Warriors and not the unique designs of their leaders/kings/queens. OS25 (Talk) 15:56, June 14, 2017 (UTC)

:These comic images are much clearer than the above TV images. Comic#3 is quite nice. In my opinion, Comic#5 is the best of the images that feature multiple variants. Comic#1 is pretty, but its lighting makes the helmet of the Ice Lord somewhat hard to make out. :: We want an infobox to illustrate things about a species to the reader. I'm not fond of 5 mainly because it really fails to do this. The Warrior's look like their wearing long coats, not armour. I think in this sense, #4 tell the readers the most information. Not only does it show off their sharp-green hues, but it's one of the only suggested images that shows the Warriors on their home planet -- and that red pallatte serves as a lovely background as well. Readers will see the image and think green and red, which is totally accurate to the depiction of the Ice Warriors. also, the image suggests a honourific ritual, connecting the story to that basic idea of Martian Honour. This question is both spoiler and speculation. The only place on this wiki you can discuss this question is at the Howling:The Howling. Thanks! Shambala108 16:06, February 27, 2013 (UTC)

Oops sorry just exited! Thoth the wise 16:09, February 27, 2013 (UTC)

No problem, that's why I gave you not only a place where you can discuss it but also the wiki rules so you know what is and isn't allowed. Shambala108 16:52, February 27, 2013 (UTC)

Vexing?

Before amending to talk about Skaldak's eye colour, I removed a bit about firing at an Ice Warrior's eyes, at it didn't seem to make much sense. -- Tybort (talk page) 23:18, April 13, 2013 (UTC)

...and large black eyes (COMIC: Descendance); an enemy firing at their eyes was particularly vexing. (COMIC: 4-Dimensional Vistas)

Religion section

Part of the religion section seems to have gone missing. Sentence fragments - out-of-order explanations.

Main picture

Do we really have to keep the actual picture (Skaldak without a helmet) as the main picture ? It really doesn't depict the Ice Warriors as we know them... Chapeltok 12:55, April 15, 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, I sort of agree. The helmet covering the face is part of the Ice Warrior "look". Most of Cold War is set in a dark submarine, so I don't know if there's anything in that story that's better lit than the black and white image we used to have, but it seems to make more sense to represent Ice Warriors as a whole with the helmet on, which is present in Cold War. -- Tybort (talk page) 17:16, April 15, 2013 (UTC)
no there really isn't an image that is better lit in cold war of ice warriors' traditional look, but the promotional image of Skaldak released on the official Doctor Who facebook page is the best image there is of the new series ice warrior right now. I think it would be the best image to use for the profile image or we could do what we did with the doctor page and have it alternate between the black and white image and the new series image.DalekSupreme13 06:49, June 23, 2014 (UTC)

It is the policy of this wiki not to use promotional images on in-universe articles. If a picture is to be used of the new Ice Warrior design, it must come from an episode, of which only Cold War currently features the design. --Revan\Talk 08:59, June 23, 2014 (UTC)

However, that is a good quality image. Would it be inappropriate to place it under the "Behind the scenes" section? As I understand it, that section is exempt from that policy. --SnorlaxMonster 07:43, June 27, 2014 (UTC)

The Silent Stars Go By

This page should be updated to include the information given in Dan Abnett's above mentioned novel, as it gives data which concern the future of the Ice Warriors, their code, and the fact that the Doctor at some point becomes a hero in Martian society. --Graske of the Mandragora 09:46, April 23, 2013 (UTC)

Lords of the Red Planet

The paragraph describing Judgement of Isskar's honour and the Martians "giving things freely" says that this was before they became a warrior race again. Is this stated or inferred by Lords of the Red Planet? Because the rest of the edits regarding them don't go into any detail beyond "they were created by the Gandorans". -- Tybort (talk page) 18:05, November 17, 2013 (UTC)

It originally stated that it was before they became a warrior race. I added "again" because in "Lords of the Red Planet" the Gandorans create them as a slave warrior race (which could never backfire, could it?). JagoAndLitefoot 18:19, November 17, 2013 (UTC)

Actually, it appears (I wrote some of it before I listened to the whole story) that all the Ice Warriors in the story, created by the Gandorans by forced evolution of the Saurians, are killed in the story. At the end, Quandril promises not to tamper with forced evolution and genetic engineering anymore, but the Doctor, knowing that the Ice Warriors will take over the planet eventually, speculates that he either did have some more Ice Warriors created, or that they eventually evolved naturally from the Saurians. So it is possible that the later Ice Warriors were originally peaceful. JagoAndLitefoot 19:33, November 17, 2013 (UTC)

Humanoids?

I'm a bit confused on this point. I haven't watched Cold War in years, but my recollection is that, without the armour, Ice Warriors are more of an octopus-like scuttling creatures. Their armour is humanoid without a doubt. The images in Category:Cold War TV story images do not show their full body. Is their description as humanoid due to the armour or is their a confirmation in Cold War? Amorkuz 20:00, April 18, 2017 (UTC)
