TV Tornado, briefly known as TV Tornado and Solo (after absorbing Solo), was a British weekly comic which included comic strips and articles based on various popular TV series. Published by City Magazines, TV Tornado ran for 88 issues between 1967 and 1968, as well as several annuals.
Unlike sister titles TV Century 21 and Lady Penelope, TV Tornado printed no Doctor Who universe stories which this Wiki considers valid, but it did publish Doctor Who-related non-fiction articles and features on a semi-regular basis.
TV Tornado also contributed to the expanded Gerry Anderson supermarionation universe (of which The Daleks had previously been a part) when The Mysterons comic strip, a prequel series to Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons, started in the 36th issue. The Man from U.N.C.L.E. featured as text stories from the first issue and had been absorbed into this universe in Lady Penelope but was not conceived as such upon its inception as a television series.
After its 88th issue (dated 14 September 1968), TV Tornado was merged into TV21 (formerly TV Century 21) to create TV21 and TV Tornado, beginning with #192: The Saint and Tarzan were the only strips to survive the merger. The “combined” title reverted to just TV21 with issue #243, just before it and sister-weekly Joe 90 Secret Agent were merged into new title TV21 and Joe 90.
