The Summer of Love was, according to Jessica Willamy, the summer of 1967, a time when "the smoky aroma of grass ... brought dreams of hope and peace and love". It was a time when the American counterculture movement was at or near its zenith. Hippies, Diggers, Vietnam War protesters and other like-minded groups were at their most optimistic.
