Summary[]

The Daleks steal an atomic submarine and launch its missiles at Sydney, Australia. They plan to establish a base in the ruins, convert the survivors into Daleks, then destroy the rest of the world!

Daleks condition their human slaves using gold cubes applied to the forehead. Each subsidiary cube is controlled by a master cube.

*Sub Zero is the first example of a Doctor Who story to begin with a typographical symbol — in this case, an asterisk — instead of an alphabetic or numeric character.
The Daleks are led by a black and gold Dalek. The same colour scheme was used for the Dalek Supreme who appeared on the television series serial Planet of the Daleks in the following year.
