Summary[]

The Third Doctor and Jo arrive in 1948 in Ember, an English village commandeered by the army for training. In the churchyard that sits amongst the deserted, bullet-marked buildings they meet a woman named Emma, who is leaving flowers at a grave. When some soldiers arrive on the scene, the Doctor convinces them that he is working for the Ministry; he, Jo and Emma look on as the military begin testing their new remote-controlled tank, code-named ‘Sphinx Lightning’. Unfortunately the tanks awaken a long-dormant power imprisoned within a nearby barrow – the creature takes over the weapons of destruction and sends them on a rampage…
