History[]

The Korean peninsula was divided into North and South as early as 1950. The Korean War involved the two countries, as well as American, British, and Chinese soldiers. (COMIC: The Good Soldier [+]Andrew Cartmel, DWM Comics (Marvel Comics, 1991).)

In 1988, South Korea was one of the stops made by the Neptune on its around-the-world journey. (PROSE: Dateline to Deadline [+]Ian Farrington, Short Trips: Christmas Around the World (Short Trips, 2008).)

In the wake of Miracle Day in 2011, the North Korean regime viewed its population as immortal soldiers and began to mobilise troops along the border with South Korea. (TV: The New World [+]Russell T Davies, Torchwood series 4 (Starz, 2011).)

In 2021, having left the TARDIS, Graham O'Brien heard reports of gravel creatures coming to life in a quarry in Korea. All extraction was shut down based on the workers' reports. He wanted to investigate with Ryan Sinclair, but Ryan said he wasn't yet where he wanted to be in his own life, and "[wasn't] done" where he was. (TV: Revolution of the Daleks [+]Chris Chibnall, Doctor Who New Year Special 2021 (BBC One, 2021).)

In 2059, South Korea was part of the Bowie Base One mission, though there were no South Korean astronauts at the station. (TV: The Waters of Mars [+]Russell T Davies and Phil Ford, Doctor Who Autumn Special 2009 (BBC One, 2009).)

The Tenth Doctor and Donna Noble once visited South Korea while trying to discover who was responsible for the release of Rempaths into the Earth's internet. (PROSE: In the Blood [+]Jenny Colgan, (informally) BBC Books past Doctor novels (BBC Books, 2016).)

The Tenth Doctor compared Castle Extremis to a scenario in which North and South Korea decided to ditch their weapons programmes and buy Alton Towers. (PROSE: Martha in the Mirror [+]Justin Richards, BBC New Series Adventures (BBC Books, 2008).)
