South Carolina was a state of the United States of America. In December 1860, it became the first state to secede from the Union. It did so by way of a document known as the Declaration of the Immediate Causes Which Induce and Justify the Secession of South Carolina from the Federal Union. Soon thereafter, it joined with other southern states to form the Confederate States of America.
Of the many cities and townships in the state was Lyon Ridge, home of Paul LeVal. LeVal was ordered, on 12 April 1861, to report to the barracks at Charleston, South Carolina for service in the Confederate army. (PROSE: Blood and Hope)
