Silver, born Humberto don Silvestre, was the creator of the Silverati.

History[]

Humberto don Silvestre was born on Earth in 2978. He was born physically disabled, and was not expected to live a long life, until his skill at hacking computers was discovered by the authorities and his lungs were replaced with artificial ones.

He was later recruited into the military where he was badly injured, losing a hand and an eye. Cybernetically enhanced and his brain merged with an alien liquid computer system which had fallen into human hands, he became known as Silver. Thanks to his intellect and understanding of computers, he immediately integrated perfectly with the alien technology and disabled all the fail-safes designed by the scientists in order to control him.

Following an invasion of Earth in 3006, the desperate authorities used an experimental time device in a gambit to find ways of defeating the invaders. Silver was sent into the future, from where he intended not to return. Silver ended up stranded on the planet Endpoint, where he rapidly established himself as the most powerful man in Hope. (PROSE: Hope) He was a notable faction within the chaos in the Twelve Galaxies following the Emperor's assassination. (COMIC: Miranda)

Later in his life, Silver created 36 Silverati from cryogenically preserved humans in a bunker on Endpoint. His intention was to use them as the first wave of a new army he would create based on himself, with the goal of travelling to the nearby Imperial throneworld to acquire the necessary resources. He even intended to create his own versions of the TARDIS, using scans he had acquired by manipulating Anji Kapoor into assisting him. The Eighth Doctor later trapped Silver with the Silverati on A2756, with Silver deprived of the memory wafer containing his scans of the TARDIS and his organic eye destroyed by Anji. (PROSE: Hope)

Other information[]

While exposed to temporal energies in the Supremacy, the Eighth Doctor experienced one of his own future memories of encountering Silver, specifically ducking as Silver's metal fist attempted to punch him. (PROSE: Father Time)

When the Magistrate travelled through the Timegate to the Needle, he saw Silver among several visions of history on the walls of the Time Vortex. (PROSE: The Infinity Doctors)

Behind the scenes[]

  • In Lance Parkin's Whoniverse: An Unofficial Planet-by-Planet Guide to the World of the Doctor from Gallifrey to Skaro, Parkin asserts that Utopia occurs in the same era as Father Time, Hope, and Miranda. Parkin here suggests that the Silver Devastation is named for Silver, although shortly afterwards Parkin would provide a different explanation for the Devastation in AUDIO: Cold Fusion.
