The Saxons settled in 5th century England. The Monk attempted to prevent the Norman Conquest of the Saxons in 1066 as part of a plan to guide England into an age of technological prosperity. (DW: The Time Meddler)

The Saxon settled in various places in the British isles, including Northumbria where they encountered the First Doctor and the Monk. The Saxons lived in villages ruled by village elders and village councils. The country at this time was controlled by kings. At the time of their encounter with the Doctor, their King was Harold Godwinson. Monasteries were considered a place of healing by the Saxons. They were the enemies of the Vikings, and of William the Conqueror. In 1066, despite the Monk's interference, they were defeated by William the Conqueror in the Battle of Hastings on October 13th.
