A Sarlain was a small yellow flower which grew on Mount Cadon on Gallifrey. It was a hardy bloom, with petals edged with notches and striations. The Hermit knew of people who called it a daisy, rose or daffodil, but saw no need to label it. (PROSE: Timewyrm: Revelation) He used one of these flowers to bring hope to his old pupil the Doctor in a moment of despair. (TV: The Time Monster)

Towards the end of his life, the First Doctor met his mentor by a tree surrounded by sarlains on Mount Lung. (PROSE: The Three Paths)
