Sandstorm

A sandstorm was a strong wind which blew particles of sand. They usually occurred in deserts.

In the Sahara Desert, an alien camel's space pod created a sandstorm to frighten the local Bedouin tribes, who believed the storm to be a djinn. The Eleventh Doctor and Clara Oswald investigated and exposed the true nature of the storm. (COMIC: Sandblasted)

In the 9th century, the Fifth Doctor and Hason were caught in a sandstorm in Sudan. (AUDIO: The Destroyer of Delights)

In 1289, Susan Foreman, Ping-Cho and Tegana were caught in a sandstorm in the Gobi Desert. Ian Chesterton said that the sandstorm they were in sounded like "all the devils in Hell were laughing", while Marco Polo said that the Gobi sandstorms sometimes sounded like musical instruments being played, or many people talking at once, or a familiar voice calling one's name. Polo believed that his horses could sense the coming of a sandstorm. (TV: The Singing Sands)

In 1930, the Eleventh Doctor, Clara and Amy Johnson were caught in a sandstorm in Iraq. (COMIC: A Wing and a Prayer)

Sandstorms were helpful to the crews of sandminers since they brought heavier and more valuable minerals to the surface. Storm Mine 4 had encountered one such sandstorm when the Fourth Doctor and Leela arrived. (TV: The Robots of Death)

Elicien was caught in a sandstorm while working on a sandminer. Despite the attempts of Voc robots to shield her, she died. (AUDIO: Robophobia)

In 200,000, sandstorms on the New Venus archipelago resulted in two hundred deaths. (TV: The Long Game)

On Aridius, the First Doctor and Barbara Wright were caught in a sandstorm in the Sagarro Desert while looking for Ian Chesterton and Vicki. The storm also buried the TARDIS and a Dalek which was looking for them. (TV: The Chase)

The planet Karris frequently had sandstorms, which made it difficult to transmat there. (PROSE: Shining Darkness)

The planet Posadise frequently had sandstorms, which the native Posadians relied on to keep their cities clean of debris. (COMIC: A Mess of Trouble)

In the Divergent Universe, the Eighth Doctor, Charley Pollard and C'rizz were caught in a sandstorm in the Eutermes zone on Bortresoye. (AUDIO: The Creed of the Kromon)
