The San Francisco Chronicle was a San Francisco newspaper. On 14 February 1968, it reported that a circular symbol with an "R" in it — the symbol of the Revolution Man — appeared on both towers of San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge. While some hailed the Revolution Man as a sort of Messiah, Lieutenant Marco Phillips said that the act of vandalism served to "promote the activities of drug-takers and draft-dodgers".
