Biography[]
Hawkins was a boxer (PROSE: The Scales of Injustice) before serving as quartermaster at the Vault. (PROSE: The Forgotten Son) He joined UNIT and, by the time of his death, was engaged to Maisie Hawke. (PROSE: The Scales of Injustice)
Sent to Wenley Moor nuclear research facility, Hawkins was part of the expedition that descended into the caves after the Third Doctor was almost attacked by a dinosaur. By one account, he was a sergeant at this time; (PROSE: Doctor Who and the Cave-Monsters) by another, he was a captain. He searched for the Silurian that Major Baker had wounded, looking in Squire's barn where he and another soldier almost shot a chicken by mistake, and communicated with the helicopter that searched the moorland and located Dr Quinn.
In the caves, Captain Hawkins was among the soldiers trapped by Morka and freed thanks to the Doctor's negotiations with Okdel L'da. He was put in charge of a group of soldiers at one of the entrances and later looked for Private Wright with Sergeant Hart after Hart lost contact with him. They found his body and were attacked by a Silurian which killed Sergeant Hart, which Captain Hawkins reported to Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart. He went on to find Private Upton's body.
Whilst searching through the wreckage of the lab that the Doctor had used to find a cure to the Silurian virus, four Silurians invaded the centre with the Doctor as their prisoner. Captain Hawkins took up a defensive position behind the doorway and tried to shoot at the Silurians as one of them tried to kill the Brigadier. However, a Silurian killed him using its third eye.
