Salem Village

Salem Village was a town in Massachusetts. From 1692 to 1693, persecutions and trials of supposed witches took place there. The First Doctor, Susan Foreman, Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright were present for the trials.

By the 1990s, it had been renamed Danvers and a memorial to the victims of the witch trials had been erected. The town's connection to the trials was also a major source of tourism. Many shops featured stereotypical depictions of witches in their windows. (PROSE: The Witch Hunters)

Though it's possible that a real world location doesn't exist in the same geographic space in the Doctor Who universe, such cases are few and far between. Thus, the map at right is probably a good indicator of the DWU location of Salem Village.

The village of Salem was a proposed setting in the Leekley Bible for a remake of The Dæmons, presumably centring the story on the Salem Witch Trials. (REF: Doctor Who: Regeneration)
