Rodrick played The Weakest Link alongside Rose Tyler on the Game Station in the year 200100.
Initially helpful to Rose, Rodrick thought she was stupid due to her very sparse general knowledge of the time period they were in. He strategically voted off Fitch, Colleen and Agorax, so as to go head-to-head with Rose and easily defeat her, which worked as Rodrick scored two correct answers against Rose's one, winning him a prize of 1,600 credits. Following the chaos caused by Jack Harkness and the Ninth Doctor's invasion of The Weakest Link, Rodrick was sent to Floor 000 of the Station before he could receive his prize money, and angrily complained about this in desperation. When Jack warned everyone on Floor 000 of the Station's imminent invasion by the Daleks, Rodrick refused to take arms against them, believing that they no longer existed, having "disappeared thousands of years ago", encouraging the others on Floor 000 to also do nothing, which failed as the Daleks still descended there to massacre them. Before being killed, Rodrick could be heard shrieking, "You can't! You don't exist! It's not fair! I won the game! I should be rich! I'm a winner! You can't do this to me!" (TV: The Parting of the Ways)
Personality[]
Rodrick was openly pragmatic and dishonourable, proudly sharing with Rose his plan to eliminate their more knowledgeable fellow contestants in their game of The Weakest Link so that he could easily win in the head-to-head, and showed abysmal sportsmanship upon doing so, gloating to Rose about his victory and her defeat, much despite the apparent fate that she was about to face because of it; he was apparently hardened to this, as unlike most other contestants, he showed virtually no sympathy to the doomed, least of all above his concern with preserving himself, and even casually explained to Rose what happened to Fitch when she was eliminated. On the other hand, Rodrick was apparently intrigued by Rose's history with "Bad Wolf" compared to his own, as well as her awareness of the Face of Boe, but not enough to mitigate his condescending attitude towards her. Rodrick was cowardly, sheltering behind the game's floor manager when an armed Jack threatened everyone involved upon Rose being 'killed'.
Rodrick's selfishness extended beyond winning the game; he impatiently demanded to receive his winnings amidst the chaos of many others stranded on Floor 000. Believing the Daleks to be just a myth, he was openly dismissive of Jack's warning of their imminent invasion, but then appeared apprehensive upon hearing his advice, as well as the Station being rattled when the Daleks breached it, and was horrified to finally realise that the threat was indeed real; he futilely continued to deny the Daleks' objective existence, and lamented how he was about to die without experiencing the prosperity that he was promised.
