Robert Scott

Captain Robert Scott was an explorer who died in the Antarctic.

Scott travelled from Cardiff to the Antarctic in 1910. He took two years to get there and died shortly after. A statue was erected in his honour. (TV: To the Last Man [+]Helen Raynor, Torchwood series 2 (BBC Two, 2008).)

After seeing a copy of The Manchester Guardian from 6 November 1912, a week in their personal future, Daniel and Nan commented that there was still no word of Captain Scott's fate. They correctly assumed that he died in the Antarctic.

News reached England that he was dead in February 1913. (AUDIO: The Fog [+]Simon Guerrier, Graceless (Big Finish Productions, 2010).)

The Eighth Doctor's companion Molly O'Sullivan compared the crew of the cryo-ship Orpheus to Scott. (AUDIO: Time's Horizon [+]Matt Fitton, Dark Eyes 2 (The Eighth Doctor Adventures: Dark Eyes, Big Finish Productions, 2014).)

The Tenth Doctor compared Ernest Shackleton to Scott. (COMIC: The First [+]Daniel McDaid, DWM Comics (Panini Comics, 2007).)

Annie Watkins told Ianto Jones that she and Daniel Price would not send him off "like Captain Scott" until they had disposed of the feast to keep away the Mari Lwyd. (AUDIO: The Grey Mare [+]Error: Code 2 - no data stored in variables, cache or SMW.)

Behind the scenes[]

Though Scott's first name was not given by To the Last Man, the scene doesn't parse correctly unless it's assumed to be Captain Robert Scott, the famous real world Antarctic explorer.
